about

i wrote a ballad for a greek rapper and activist who was killed by fascists from the Golden Dawn. They played it at his memorial.
Here is a letter i wrote about it....

Dear people of Greece
The first time I heard of Killah P was when I was backstage in the Kitaro club in Athens. I saw his graffiti tag and asked about who he was. It was then I heard about the tragedy of his murder. I was deeply moved by his story and I remember when I dedicated a song to him during the show I could feel the people erupt.
As a musician it is my responsibility to help heal the world through music. It was for this reason I wrote "The Ballad of Killah P". This summer my family was adopted by a huge Greek family and the many nights we spent staring at the stars and feasting with this new family I felt inspired to give something back. I wrote this song sitting on a beach watching my children play and feeling like the luckiest of men. This feeling was stolen from Killah P by selfish monsters who must be stopped. The rise of fascism in Europe is a terrible and scary reality, and I truly hope that with this song people around the world can understand the dangers involved with this rise. Our loved ones are at risk! This massive spread of ignorance is killing the very spirit that makes every day worth living. My heart goes out to all of you who knew Killah P and loved him. May his memory live long and shed light on the sickness that is fascism. United we can destroy this monster and hope that no one will have to write another ballad like this again.
Sincerely
King Khan

lyrics

The Ballad of Killah P
by A. A. Khan

The ballad of Pavlos Fyssas
is as sad as all the others
our brothers who fought with words
stolen from their mothers
his words they stung the beast
they spoke of a freedom
that must be preserved
by every single human
He belonged to no party
he was just an honest man
who spoke the truth in rhymes
like a true Shakespearean
he lived inside a ghetto
but his mind did roam free
a troubadour with a silver tongue
whose soul lives eternally

Killah P is in me
He's inside of you
He's inside me
and if you believe in freedom
and hold it in your hand
and put it in your heart
like an hourglass filled with sand
protect it from those fascists
before they ruin this here land
and kill all our precious sons
with brutal bloody hands

At the stroke of midnight
they took him in an alley
outnumbered ten to one
they showed him no mercy
in cold blood they killed him
in front of his lover
whose eyes wept oceans
whose heart will not recover
condemned to always be
the lover of that martyr
she'll dress in black
till the day they unite
basking in the holiness
of heavenly light

Killah P is in me
He's inside of you
He's inside me
and you
you fight for freedom
then hold it in your hand
raise your fist in the air
and show it to the man
who took away a hero
and stole his whole life
with hands full of hate
armed with bloody knives
Killah P.... oh Killah P
you will always
live in me....
